Device identification enables measurements to be associated with their physical location, installation characteristics and historical behaviour.
Beyond simple identification, each device should maintain descriptive metadata including:
- installation location
- monitored variables
- sensor configuration
- hardware characteristics
- firmware version
- calibration information
Maintaining this metadata improves traceability, simplifies maintenance activities and supports future engineering analysis.
