The root zone is the volume of soil actively explored by plant roots for water, nutrients and oxygen.
Its geometry varies according to crop species, soil characteristics, climate, irrigation practices and plant age.
It should therefore not be considered a fixed depth or a universal volume.
Instead, the active root zone represents a dynamic biological environment whose dimensions evolve during the life of the plant.
Engineering solutions intended to improve irrigation efficiency must therefore adapt to this variability rather than assuming identical behaviour for every crop or installation.
One of the long-term objectives of Radixora is enabling the platform to characterise root-zone behaviour according to local environmental conditions.
